کتاب One Hundred Years Of Solitude «صدسال تنهایی» یکی از جاودانه ترین آثار در جهان به نوشتۀ نویسندۀ بزرگ Gabriel Garcia Marquez می باشد. این نویسندۀ کلمبیایی از محبوب ترین نویسنده های معاصر بشمار می رود بطوری که برخی منابع معتقدند که همین کتاب صد سال تنهایی به زبان انگلیسی پرفروش ترین کتاب جهان می باشد. از او آثار برجستۀ دیگری نظیر: پاییز پدرسالار، عشق سال های وبا و … منتشر شده است که هر کدام چندین جایزۀ معتبر دریافت کرده اند.
کتاب صد سال تنهایی حاصل تلاش بی وقفه و دوساله مارکز می باشد او خود گفته که برای این کتاب ۱۵ ماه بدون وقفه تلاش کرده و خود را در خانه حبس کرده است. داستان این کتاب به شرح زندگی شش نسل از خانوادۀ بوئندیا پرداخته شده است که نسل اول آنها در دهکده ای به نام ماکندو مستقر می شوند.

ناپدید شدن و مرگ بعضی از شخصیتهای داستان به جادویی شدن روایتها میافزاید. صعود رمدیوس به آسمان درست مقابل چشم دیگران کشته شدن همه پسران سرهنگ آئورلیا بوئندیا که از زنان در جبهه جنگ به وجود آمدهاند توسط افراد ناشناس از طریق هدف گلوله قرار دادن پیشانی آنها که علامت صلیب داشته و طعمه مورچهها شدن آئورلیانو نوزاد تازه به دنیا آمده آمارانتا اورسولا از این موارد است. به اعتقاد بسیاری او در این کتاب سبک رئالیسم جادویی را ابداع کرده است. داستانی که در آن همهٔ فضاها و شخصیتها واقعی و حتی گاهی حقیقی هستند، اما ماجرای داستان مطابق روابط علی و معلولی شناخته شدهٔ دنیای ما پیش نمیرود.

Upon awakening, he decides to establish Macondo at the river side; after days of wandering the jungle, José Arcadio Buendía’s founding of Macondo is Founding patriarch José Arcadio Buendía believes Macondo to be surrounded by water, and from that island, he invents the world according to his perceptions Soon after its foundation, Macondo becomes a town frequented by unusual and extraordinary events that involve the generations of the Buendía family, who are unable or unwilling to escape their periodic (mostly self-inflicted) misfortunes.
For years the town is solitary and unconnected to the outside world with the exception of the annual visit of a band of gypsies, who show the townspeople technology such as magnets, telescopes and ice. The leader of the gypsies, Melquiades, maintains a close friendship with José Arcadio Buendía who becomes increasingly withdrawn, obsessed with investigating the mysteries of the universe presented to him by the gypsies. Ultimately he is driven insane, speaking only in Latin, and is tied to a chestnut tree by his family for many years until his death
