The Scarlet Letter

Set in the harsh Puritan community of seventeenth-century Boston, this tale of an adulterous entanglement that results in an illegitimate birth reveals Nathaniel Hawthorne’s concerns with the tension between the public and the private selves. Publicly disgraced and ostracized, Hester Prynne draws on her inner strength and certainty of spirit to emerge as the first true heroine of American fiction. Arthur Dimmesdale, trapped by the rules of society, stands as a classic study of a self divided

The Scarlet Letter was a great book. It was written to show the hypocrisy of the Puritan life. It is about the meager life of Hester Prynne and Pearl Prynne. The tone varies throughout the story. It goes from hatred to bitter to straightforward to loving. Some people talk in a very brusque way. Using a dark and gloomy mood, this book entices you to read on. Having been an adulterer, Hester Prynne has created the theme of sin and betrayal. This book alludes to the bible and contains a lot of plain style. I enjoyed the book and I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys a tough read.
